Gods and Sacred Mountains | Guru Rinpoche

The Tibetan name »Guru Rinpoche« means »precious teacher«. He established the wisdom of Buddhism in the Himalayas by merging it with pre-Buddhist beliefs, part of the Tibetan world at that time. The Sanskrit name of Guru Rinpoche, »Padmasambhava«, means »He who was Borne out of the Lotus« and refers to his miraculous birth from a lotus blossom. In this earthly manifestation, Buddha embodied himself as a being that could be effective in this world.

Guru Rinpoche appears, according to the context of his religious activity, in eight manifestations.
