Not only every Bhutanese temple, but also every private house in Bhutan, has an altar in it. With its consecrated religious statues it forms the spiritual centre of all architecture and an important point of reference in the Bhutanese conception of the world.

This virtual exhibition is structured accordingly. Starting from the three main figures of the altar, three independent, but interlinked, strands of narration introduce Bhutan's religion, history and mythology and also point to their present every-day relevance.
